PROYECTOS

Development for whom? Possible socio-economic effects of building a port in Tribugá

A deep-water port will be built in the Gulf of Tribugá in the municipality of Nuquí, Chocó, a territory where the main economic activities are artisanal fishing, the cultivation of subsistence products, the use of mangroves and ecotourism, all activities in which women play a central role. The project is centralist, exclusionary, racist and predatory; it favours the accumulation of wealth and power, since it is driven by powerful economic groups. As a result, economic, social and cultural dynamics would be threatened, generating new outbreaks of violence.

The general objective of the project is to identify the possible effects of the potential construction of the deep-water port in the Gulf of Tribugá on the main economic activities developed by women of African descent in the municipality of Nuquí.

Specific objectives:

  • Identify the main economic activities developed by women of African descent in the municipality of Nuquí.

  • Publicise the perspectives of the community of the municipality of Nuquí in relation to the effects that the potential construction of the deep water port in the Gulf of Tribugá would have on the main economic activities developed by women of African descent.

  • Publicise the tensions arising from the different perspectives of territorial development regarding the economic activities carried out by women of African descent in the municipality of Nuquí with the potential construction of the deep-sea port in the Gulf of Tribugá.
