“Much more than armored cars” is an excellent metaphor to draw attention to the security challenges involved in establishing a transitional justice system such as the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia. In this new edition of the “one-pager” format, produced in the framework of our Education and Science Diplomacy initiative, we present the progress of one of our research projects funded under the 2021 call for proposals.
The project “‘Much more than armored cars’. Towards an analysis of the impact of violence on transitional justice and community protection measures in Colombia. A case study in Urabá Antioqueño”, is the product of acollaboration between researchers from Justus Liebig University, Giessen and Göttingen University, Germany, and Universidad de Antioquia in Colombia.
The questions addressed by the project are: What consequences does the situation of insecurity have on JEP operations and its effectiveness in meeting its goals related to justice, truth, reparation, and non repetition in Colombia? What kind of measures have been taken to address these security challenges and ensure the participation of victims and other stakeholders in the Comprehensive System of Truth, Justice, Reparation and Non-Repetition (SIVJRNR), especially in the JEP? How effective and sustainable are these measures? How have they contributed to strengthening the participation of different stakeholders?
Preliminary answers to these questions can be found in our One-Pager #4, which you can download here.
