Truth Commissioner Lucía González and the Reconciliation Choir, under the baton of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, will represent Colombia at the Globe21 Festival, an international academic and cultural event organised by the University of Leipzig. CAPAZ supports Colombia’s participation in this important event.
The Globe21 festival will present the international panel “Art and Peace after Bloody Conflicts: From Understanding to Reconciliation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Colombia and Germany” live on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 12:30 pm (Colombia), 7:30 pm (Germany), and under the slogan #BorderCrossingSolidarities. Truth Commissioner Lucía González will talk with Ado Hasanović, film director from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Maya Weisinger, coordinator of the Cultural Action Europe programme in Germany.
The event was coordinated and will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Solveig Richter (University of Leipzig), and it will have simultaneous translation (English, German, Spanish). The three guests will discuss the contribution of art and its instruments to conflict resolution and peacebuilding beyond politics. The relationship between art and peace goes beyond artistic production or management, and encompasses perspectives from academic research, practices, and artists.
Music for healing and social reconciliation
The Reconciliation Choir will present its discussion along with an online performance following the panel discussion on July 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. (Colombia), 21:00 (Germany).
The Reconciliation Choir has been working towards peace and nation-building since 2019. Under the auspices of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, it brings together peace signatories, former combatants from different armed groups and victims of Colombia’s internal conflict. Men, women, children and young people open their hearts in every rehearsal, every concert, and every encounter with the public, even now when everything is online.
