Call for knowledge management cases for/about peace

Tuesday

29 Nov 2022
Knowledge management in institutions working for or on peace is a challenge that emerged with the signing of the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP. Hundreds of reports and analyses produced databases and geographic information systems condensing knowledge about the territories, academic articles and reflections made in alliances with universities and research centres, are just some of the ways in which knowledge is concretized. But its management, treatment, and dissemination are beginning to pose a challenge for the different types of institutions that produce it. They all want it to be at the service of a better design of public policies; for it to be readily accessible to analysts, journalists, and researchers; or for society to learn of its existence and thus for it to be used to enhance citizen education and general culture.
During its almost six years of work, CAPAZ has witnessed this phenomenon and has been concerned with consolidating the topic within the peace research agenda. We have organized several activities with the Centre for Research and Special Projects (CIPE) at Universidad Externado de Colombia and we are now publishing this call for papers to continue with the reflection.

We welcome abstracts of cases of knowledge management for/about peace, which briefly address any of the following questions:

  • What challenges in the management of knowledge for peace-building are evident in the case presented for your project, activity, or institution (e.g., ethical, managerial, informational, organizational, operational, methodological challenges, among others)?
  • What public policies or public management tools enhance or inhibit the contribution of knowledge in territorial peacebuilding initiatives within your case?
  • What is the potential for scientific and institutional use of the knowledge you produce, manage, and disseminate through your project, activity, or institution?

The call is addressed to:

  • Decision-makers, public policy makers, and international donors interested in highlighting knowledge management experiences and tools for peacebuilding.
  • Researchers and research managers/coordinators executing peacebuilding projects with an emphasis on knowledge management (e.g., data banks, repositories), interested in sharing empirical research advances or management experiences in this field.
  • In general, public, and non-governmental entities at the national and territorial level, and international and cooperation organizations, for which knowledge management is a mission function for peacebuilding.

Those interested should submit a 700-word abstract with a brief description of the identified case. The submission deadline is January 15, 2023.  Download text here.
